Certified Recovery Support Practitioners (Mental Health Peer Specialists) provide emotional & experience-based support, using evidence-based practices and their own lived experience, to individuals who are seeking to attain or maintain wellness. Collaboration between POST staff & the individual are made to achieve goals, overcome barriers, & create a system of support. Services are provided Monday through Friday from 9am to 8pm. Saturdays by appointment. Call 732-244-0940 for more information.
Peers are individuals who have personal lived experience with a mental health disorder and have faced similar challenges. After gaining their own wellness and gone through extensive training, these Peer Specialists now use their stories and experience to help others who are also seeking wellness and recovery. Participants of this program will meet with a peer with similar circumstances to gain personalized support, coping skills and strategies, and advocacy. Whether you are in treatment now or have completed and need extra support this service is for you to help you along your journey.
The peer delivered groups are a safe place for people to share and be heard, as well as learn about different topics important to them in the world of wellness and recovery. The groups are open to anybody 18 years of age and above regardless of diagnosis or current issues. Everyone is welcome. The groups are done in a very conversational type of way. There are many ways to participate, including just sitting back and listening, or actively participating in the conversation. Our goal is to give everyone who attends a safe place to learn and grow, and their wellness and recovery.
Through the service of peer non-clinical case management S.M.A.R.T goals are created by peer specialist and participant in efforts to overcome barriers and obtain goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely. Goal planning is for individuals looking to work on any wellness and recovery goal that’s important to them. As peer supporters, we don’t prescribe treatment or tell people how to "do" their recovery. We offer lived experience and helpful support to empower the participant to achieve their desired goal.
MHANJ serves the community by speaking up for those who need help to or are unable to speak up for themselves. We not only do this in the areas of wellness and recovery but we advocate for better housing, resources, eligibility of services, and much more. By speaking up and helping others to speak up for themselves, MHANJ looks to the issues most important to the people we serve. We will also train and educate those who would like to advocate for themselves to feel confident and empowered to do so.
