The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) is an Evidenced-Based Wellness Tool that can be used by an individual for any area of wellness or recovery in their life. WRAP helps people identify their specific wants and needs in their wellness and empowers them to walk it out every day. WRAP begins by helping the individual identify their strengths including helpful coping skills or “wellness tools”, as well as making important lists of things they need to do regularly to keep themselves feeling well.
WRAP continues by helping the person identify stressors and warning signs that they may not be well. This is important because when one can recognize these issues they can then reach out for the proper support. WRAP Supports this by having an action plan section for each of the sections identified as Stressors, Early Warning Signs, & When Things Are Breaking Down. This gives the individual the power to identify their coping skills and resources needed to feel better.
Finally, WRAP takes a participant through a Crisis and Post Crisis Plan to help the participant identify when they need an intervention from trusted supporters. This section is vitally important because this is to be shared with others so that those around the person can give the exact support they need in a difficult time.
WRAP was created for peers by peers and has helped those in the mental health & substance use community and beyond for nearly 30 years. This proven effective method is truly a game changer for those looking to take back control of their wellness.
